Born in Shanghai, China, Gayook escaped from Communism at age 3 ½. She offers a unique approach in teaching qigong, successfully integrating both eastern and western cultures into her life. Descended from a paternal lineage of qigong healers, she has practiced qigong to heal from cancer, physical and sexual abuse. Her western training and experience include 29 years of clinical psychotherapy with trauma survivors, specifically with survivors of child sexual and physical abuse, rape, and domestic violence. She was also an organizational consultant with AT&T and Lucent Technology, dealing with issues of racism, sexism and homophobia. Gayook taught qigong in the Wellness Center at Castle Medical Center in Oahu, Hawaii. Since moving to Los Angeles, she has worked in adult day health care centers, successfully facilitating qigong meditations to heal senior war veterans, prisoners of war, and political prisoners who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (ptsd). She now sees individuals privately and teaches classes. She and her adult children, Jennifer and Matthew, are co-authors along with Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer in Amazon’s Top Ten List, Wake Up and Live the Life You Love, Seizing Your Success.

Hi Gayook
Enjoyed seeing you at latihan and I have enjoyed checking out your website. Strange: before meeting you I had never heard about qigong.
See you soon,

Gayook, I met you once a long while ago, here in NJ. I was with my sister Andrea/Cookie. I wanted to thank you for your healing session with her before her recent surgery. She is doing well. Your website is beautiful and I feel very peaceful here.

Best regards to you also, I’ll pass the message to Cookie when I speak to her later this evening. Do you know any Qigong classes over here on the east coast? I’m considering trying some acupuncture to manage pain and although I have some limits on my body, I’m interested in learning more about your method.
Take care,
Jeanne

Hi Jeanne, I don’t know of any offhand. The only thing I would suggest is that you google qigong in whatever locale you are in to see if there’s a practitioner. The style I do is called Wudong Qigong – google that plus your locale. If there aren’t any, just try any qigong methodololgy and see what comes up. Once you find a school near you, you’ll just need to try it out and see if you like the teacher. Good luck. Gayook

Good stuff…..not many qigong writers/teachers have been able to comprehensively relate the healing powers of qigong to the healing of emotional trauma. It is certainly something that the East can impart to the West and possibly heal many incapacitated by trauma. Collectively, humanity has been fragmented by the unseen horrors of trauma which has resulted in many broken families and individuals. Keep up the good work. Perhaps you can do a DVD one day….

Thank you for your feedback on my Bio. I must say that this work came totally unexpected, but I think that is how the Universe works. When one receives one’s calling, it usually comes as a total surprise, nothing that anyone could prepare for. I am grateful for the opportunity to help others.
